BRATTLEBORO, Vermont – The 2021 New England Golf Association Senior Amateur Tournament will be played September 14-15 at the Manchester Country Club in Vermont. Players have until 5 pm on Thursday, July 29 to register.
The tournament is open to all players 55 years of age as of September 15, 2021, with a 12.0 or under GHIN Handicap index at any NEGA member club. The fee is $250 for exempt players, $125 for those who attempt to qualify (and then an additional $150 for those who do qualify). Three qualifying rounds will held on a first-come, first-served basis, though players can choose to play on any one of the three courses:
* North Kingstown Golf Club, Rhode Island on Monday, August 9
* Cochecho Country Club, Dover, New Hampshire on Tuesday, August 31
* Ludlow Country Club, Massachusetts on Wednesday, September 1
This will be the 24th iteration of the tournament. When it was last held in Vermont, at the Rutland Country Club in 2012, it was won by a Vermonter, Peter Metzler of the Proctor-Pittsfield Country Club.
Last year’s championship was held at the Mount Washington Resort Golf Club in New Hampshire; Frank Vana, Jr. (Marlborough Country Club, MA) prevailed over the 2019 defending champ, Bob Kearny (Bretwood Golf Club, NH).
The New England Golf Association, established in 1926, is a 501(c)3 amateur golf organization comprised of leaders from the six New England golf associations – Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
In addition to serving the needs of golf in New England, the organization’s primary purpose is to conduct four premier tournaments: New England Amateur Championship, New England Women’s Amateur Championship, New England Junior Championship and New England Senior Championship
Each championship event is held on a rotating basis at golf clubs located at one of the six New England member state associations.
