Golfweek Recognizes 37 Troon Facilities as ‘Best Courses’ to Play in 2019

BOSTON, Mass. – Troon Golf, a golf course management, development and marketing company based in Scottsdale, Arizona, has 37 of its affiliated courses featured in Golfweek’s newly published “Ultimate Guide” of “Best Courses” for 2019.

The list includes the best in resort, residential, and the Caribbean/Mexico. Troon is the world’s largest golf management company, providing services in 35 states and 30 countries at more than 360 locations, including 280 golf courses at 246 facilities.

Nineteen Troon-affiliated golf courses are represented on the “Best 200 Resort Courses” list, led by Kapalua’s Plantation Course on Maui, Hawaii at No. 16; Cascata Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada at No. 51; Pronghorn’s Nicklaus Course in Bend, Oregon at No. 52; and Princeville Makai Golf Club on Kauai is ranked No. 54.

Fifteen Troon-managed facilities are included in the “Best 200 Residential Courses,” led by Pronghorn’s Fazio Course in Bend at No. 12; Quintero Golf Club in Peoria, Arizona, at No. 64; Champion Hills in Hendersonville, North Carolina at No. 67; Troon Country Club in Scottsdale, Arizona at No. 79; and Wickenburg Ranch Golf & Social Club in Wickenburg, Arizona at No. 86.

Three of Troon’s facilities are ranked in the “Best 50 Courses of the Caribbean and Mexico,” including Port Royal Golf Club in Southampton, Bermuda at No. 25, Ocean Club in the Bahamas at No. 40 and Bahia Beach Resort & Golf Club in Puerto Rico at No. 45.

Located on the island of Maui, Troon Golf manages two of the most majestic golf courses in the world – the Plantation Course and the Bay Course is home to the PGA TOUR’s Tournament of Champions.

Every year, Golfweek’s elite team of course raters, which currently boasts more than 850 evaluators, surveys more than 3,600 courses – grading each nominated course on the basis of Golfweek’s 10 strict standards of evaluation. Collectively, these knowledgeable raters have turned in more than 75,000 votes to compile Golfweek’s Best Courses lists.

As a caddie, greenkeeper, and Ouimet Scholar from Marshfield Country Club on Boston’s South Shore, Leigh developed his love for the game at an early age. The BA from Amherst College and MA from Dartmouth prepared him for his 36-year career in education, most of it teaching Advanced Placement English and coaching varsity golf. In 1986, a sabbatical from teaching students to writing stories for “Golf World” magazine prepared him for his second career in golf journalism. Leigh is a low-handicap golfer who has won the Golf Writers Association of America’s championship seven times. He is currently a member of Southers Marsh Golf Club in Plymouth, MA, and PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, FL.
