Yeomans/Paesani & Dully/Bramlett share New England PGA Pro-Assistant Title

The two-man teams of Greg Yeomans & John Paesani (Bay Club at Mattapoisett) and Frank Dully & Steve Bramlett (Kernwood Country Club) fired 7-under par 64 to share the title of New England Pro-Assistant champions at the Bay Club at Mattapoisett on June 29.

MATTAPOISETT, Mass. – Lightning was in the forecast at the Bay Club at Mattapoisett on Monday June 29 and it struck in more ways than one.

The literal lightning strikes, which led to a two-hour delay in the early afternoon, may have been the lasting memory from the New England PGA Pro-Assistant if it weren’t for the figurative strike: Hyannisport Assistant Pro Andy Lane’s first career hole-in-one in the 195-yard 9th hole.

“I’m still in a little disbelief to be honest with it being my first one,” Lane said afterwards. “I’m just excited to have my first one. My father has six so I’ve still got five more to go to catch him.”

While the ace was a fortunate outcome for Lane, he won’t make any money for his feat. When asked if he had entered the NEPGA Hole-In-One Pool, he responded “No, of course not, why would I? This is my first 18-hole round of the year so it’s just a bonus to be out here today.”

Bay Club at Mattapoisett host professionals Greg Yeomans, & John Paesani, shared the victory with the Kernwood Country Club duo of Frank Dully, & Steve Bramlett, at 7-under par 64. Both teams made seven birdies without a bogey.

Andy Lane, assistant pro at Hyannisport Club, provided the highlight of the day by registering his first career hole-in-one on the 195-yard par 3 ninth hole.

“Teamwork was working,” Paesani said. “Greg and I have a very good chemistry playing as partners. We trust each other tremendously and we had two balls in play most of the day.”

“That’s always the key in these events, keeping two balls in play,” Yeomans added. “Obviously knowing the course allows us to take some more aggressive lines from time to time, knowing where the misses are. We made a couple putts early.”

Dully & Bramlett built some momentum on the front nine, sitting a 3-under par through seven holes when the horn blew, and picked up right where they left off after the break with two more birdies to make the turn at 5-under with a run of four-straight birdies. The pair added two more back-9 birdies to post 64.

“A couple times we’ve finished runner-up here, and we were talking about how we always get going on the back but we wanted to get going early,” Dully said of the 5-under front nine.

Jeff Martin, & Parker Sanford, of Wollaston Golf Club posted 6-under par 65 with six birdies and no bogeys. Martin shot 67 on his own ball and Sanford helped out on the fifth and 14th holes, including a birdie on the par-3 14th.
