HARTFORD, Connecticut – As expected, the Travelers Championship will have elite status again in 2025.
Connecticut’s biggest sporting event will be one of eight Signature Events on the PGA Tour for the third consecutive year according to the 2025 season schedule released Wednesday. It will be played June 19-22 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell.
The tournament raised a record $3.2 million for charity this year, when nine of the Top 10 players on the Official World Golf Rankings were at TPC River Highlands. No. 1 Scottie Scheffler won his sixth PGA Tour title of the year when he birdied the first playoff hole to defeat close friend Tom Kim after each finished 72 holes at 22-under-par 258. Four of Scheffler’s victories came in a Signature Event, and he also earned the gold medal in the Olympics in Paris.
Travelers has a 10-year agreement to remain the tournament’s title sponsor through 2030, and PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan confirmed it would remain a Signature Event next season in a press conference at the TPC River Highlands in June.
“Well, we have an agreement — this is the 18th year with Travelers, they’re in a 10-year agreement through 2030, and this event will be a Signature Event in 2025,” Monahan said.
The PGA Tour’s eight Signature Events will be the same in 2025 as they were this season, beginning with the Sentry in Maui, Hawaii, on Dec. 30 and concluding with the Travelers. The others are the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (Jan. 27-Feb. 2), The Genesis Invitational (Feb. 10-16), Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard (March 3-9), RBC Heritage (April 14-20), Truist Championship (May 5-11) and The Memorial Tournament presented by Workday (May 26-June 1).
Signature Events boast fields that include a higher percentage of the world’s top players, a limited field of 70 to 80 players with no cuts, increased FedEx Cup points and a higher payout to the winner. Scheffler earned $3.6 million for his win, and the tournament had an overall purse of $20 million. By comparison, the 2022 Travelers, which was not a Signature Event, paid out a total of $8.3 million.
Other highlights on the 2025 PGA Tour schedule include the U.S. Open, to be played the week before the Travelers (June 9-15) at Oakmont Country Club outside of Pittsburgh, Pa., the Open Championship (July 14-20) at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Portrush, Northern Ireland, and the PGA Championship (May 12-18) at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C.
The FedEx Cup Playoffs are set to run Aug. 4-24 with three events, concluding with the Tour Championship on Aug. 21-24 at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The 2024 playoffs started Thursday with the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tenn.
