First introduced in 2017 the TP5/5x remain the only five-layer balls on the market and both new versions feature an addition to the formulation of the core that changes the sound and feel making it softer and more muted. The Speed Wrapped Core, according to company testing produces the improved impact sound without hurting the distance the ball travels or the spin.

From the cover to the core each layer, each with different firmness, plays a role depending on the club being used. Longer clubs like drivers have a harder hit and compress all the layers while shorter clubs such as wedges may have a primary effect only on the cover.

The TP5 has a softer feel compared with the TP5x and offers more spin with short irons while the TP5x is longer and can produce higher ball speed.
