MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina – Nicholas Dunlap (Huntsville, Ala.) and Jacqueline Putrino (Sarasota, Fla.) today each overcame final round deficits to win the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship here at TPC Myrtle Beach.
Dunlap entered the final round just one shot off the lead, but built a cushion that allowed him to overcome a double bogey on No. 16. Dunlap shot a final round 75 and finished the 54-hole event at three-under par, two strokes clear of Luke Clanton (Miami Lakes, Fla.), Brendan Valdes (Orlando, Fla.) and Maxwell Ford (Peachtree Corners, Ga.).
Putrino was four-over par on the day and tied with Hyo Joon Jang atop the leaderboard when she made an 18-foot birdie putt on the par 5, 18th hole for the victory. She finished at six-over par, one better than Jang and two strokes clear of Savannah Hylton (Hilton Head, S.C.) and Catherine Park (Irvine, Calif.).
The Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship featured a 90-player field (60 boys, 30 girls), including 74 top 100 juniors.
