HARTFORD, Connecticut – Two players with Travelers Championship connections were bonded for the 45th U.S. Ryder Cup team this week.
Jim Furyk, who shot a PGA Tour record 12-under-par 58 in the final round of the 2016 Travelers Championship, was named a vice captain by captain Keegan Bradley, a native of Woodstock, Vt., who won at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell in 2023.
Furyk, a nine-time Ryder Cup team member and the 2018 U.S. captain, joins Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker and Kevin Kisner for the biennial competition against Europe on Sept. 23-28 at Bethpage Black n Farmingdale, N.Y. Additional vice captains will be announced in the future.
“Having Jim as a member of our leadership team is a huge advantage for us moving forward,” Bradley said in a PGA of America release. “I had the privilege of playing for him in last year’s President’s Cup, and his exceptional leadership, unwavering demeanor and wealth of experience made a huge impression on all of us. He knows what it takes to succeed in Ryder Cups, and I cannot wait to work alongside him as we prepare for Bethpage Black.”
Furyk previously was a vice captain during victories in 2016 at Hazeltine National Golf Club and in 2021 at Whistling Straits. He also captained the U.S. Team at the 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National in Guyancourt, France.
Furyk, 54, played in nine consecutive Ryder Cups (1997, ‘99, 2002, ‘04, ‘06, ‘08, ‘10, ‘12, 14), which ranks second all-time in U.S. Ryder Cup team history while his 34 career matches are tied for third.
“I am truly honored to be chosen as one of Keegan’s vice captains for the 2025 Ryder Cup,” Furyk said in the release. “There is nothing in our game quite like the experience of representing the U.S. in the Ryder Cup. I’m excited to work closely with Keegan, who brings incredible passion and leadership, as well as Webb, Brandt and Kevin to help our team re-claim the Cup this September.”
Furyk, a native of West Chester, Pa., has 29 career professional victories, including 17 on the PGA Tour and the 2003 U.S. Open at Olympia Fields. He guided the U.S. team to a 18.5-11.5 victory in the 2024 President’s Cup at Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, last September.
