ICYMI: Baystate’s Fran Quinn Qualified For Champions Tour

For Fran Quinn to advance to the second round of the PGA Tour Champions playoffs and more importantly for him to keep his playing card for next year, he needed to eagle his last hole Sunday in the Dominion Energy Charity Championship in Richmond, Virginia.

That’s precisely what the 52-year-old Holden resident did.

“I’ve just got a flair for the dramatic, don’t I?” Quinn said via telephone after the tournament.

Quinn’s closing eagle gave him a final-round, 6-under 66 and vaulted him into a tie for eighth at 10-under 206. The $52,800 he pocketed jumped him from No. 59 on the money list to No. 53 with $308,661.

The top 54 golfers qualified to play in the PowerShares QQQ Championship next weekend at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California. Quinn will also be exempt on tour for 2018.
