MANCHESTER, Vermont – With Women’s History Month coming up in March, The Equinox Golf Resort & Spa in Manchester, VT, has a long and proud tradition of serving women. In 1927, Louise Orvis hired golf course architect Walter Travis to design the original course, as women were not allowed to play on the neighboring golf course. The championship course has since been reworked by renowned designer Rees Jones in 1991, and is currently in the third phase of a new renovation project.
The resort’s Head Golf Professional, Joan McDonald, is a well-established veteran of the LPGA and a three-time qualifier for the Women’s US Open Championships. She leads a team of professionals who strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for golfers of all abilities, offering instructional playing lessons on and off the course for groups and individuals. In her role, Joan is committed to promoting the rich history of women’s golf at The Equinox Golf Club.

The course recently completed phase two of its five-phase renovation project, led by renowned course designer Rees Jones. The updates included reworked greenside bunkers at holes 8, 13, and 14, as well as a redesign of the green complex on the 18th hole. The third phase of the course renovation project, beginning in the spring of this year, promises even more updates and improvements to the already stunning course with breathtaking views of the Green Mountains and well-manicured putting surfaces, enhancing the playing experience for golfers.
To celebrate the beginning of phase three, The Equinox Golf Resort & Spa is offering Unlimited Golf With a View, which includes one day of unlimited golf, preferred tee times, overnight accommodations, and a $50 resort credit per stay.
The Equinox Golf Resort & Spa is a four-season resort and playground for outdoor activities nestled in the Green Mountain National Forest. With 199 guest rooms and suites, the Equinox offers a diversity of activities for every inclination.
