Norton, MA — The Norton-based Dell Technologies Championship unveiled opportunities for golf enthusiasts to join the 2017 Dell Technologies Championship Blue Crew, the official volunteer force who ensure the successful operation of the annual golf tournament held at TPC Boston over Labor Day Weekend.
This year’s tournament, taking place from August 30 – September 4, will once again be included in the FedEx Cup playoff schedule and feature some of the game’s top competitors.
As the event enters its 15th straight year at TPC Boston, the staff charged with filling the more than 1,400 positions needed to run a successful tournament are reaching out to do just that.
With more than 20 different committees to serve on, says DTC Executive Director Rich Brady, there are many ways that individuals of all golf backgrounds can have a hand in continuing the tradition of hosting a top-notch tournament for the PGA Tour competitors and its spectators.
“The volunteer blue crew is the heart and soul of the Dell Technologies Championship,” said Brady. “Throughout the week, our volunteers are eager to take care of our players, sponsors, fans in all areas of the event. Due to their tireless work ethic and enthusiastic spirit, we are able to deliver a successful championship year in and year out.”
Brady is part of a six-member staff who work full time out of Massachusetts Golf House organizing everything from sponsorships to vendors to bringing in the bleachers for the more than 135,000 who annually attend the end-of-summer event. Organizing the masses of volunteers assigned to the TPC Boston grounds is just one piece of a very large pie that is preparing for this one weekend every year.
Among the 20-plus committees that are looking for volunteers, those that require the greatest number of people include cart services, distribution, marshaling, premium access and spectator experience. While a knowledge of golf is a plus, the staff host training seminars that detail the roles that each grouping will have during the four-day Championship rounds and its corresponding practice rounds beforehand.
It’s expected that all volunteers work at least four, six-hour shifts during the tournament.
As part of the volunteer experience, individuals who give their time to the DTC Blue Crew get to go inside the ropes and receive arguably the best view of the entire tournament, close to the players themselves.
Additionally, volunteers receive complimentary food and beverage on the days they are scheduled to work, two good any day grounds tickets for the days they aren’t scheduled to work and an invitation to the volunteer party, among other benefits.
The volunteer package costs $90, and includes one volunteer Nike Golf Shirt, a volunteer Nike jacket and one hat or visor, in addition to the previous mentioned benefits of volunteering.
