Haverhill, MA – Rick Karbowski (Auburn Driving Range) and Bob Bruso (Blackstone National GC) teamed up for a record-setting 11-under-par 59 on Monday to capture the NEPGA’s Senior/Junior Championship at Haverhill Country Club.
The round of 59 marked the lowest score in New England PGA history.
Starting on the 10th tee, the twosome carded birdies on Nos. 12, 13, and 14, and added three more at the close (Nos. 16-18) to turn in 6 under. On its inward nine, the duo posted two more gains on Nos. 1 and 3, and then offset its only bogey (No. 6) with a birdie-eagle-birdie finish to sign for a 59.
“We made a lot of putts, Rick really had it going the entire round and he was making everything, it was great. He really inspired me to make some putts and we hit the ball on the green and said to each other ‘we have to make this’ and I just felt so good with the putter,” said Bruso.
The team of John Rainone (No. Kingstown GC) and Matt Doyle (The Misquamicut Club) secured second-place with a score of 9-under 61.
