THE VILLAGES, Florida – Just in case you haven’t heard, The Villages is America’s premier active adult retirement community located in sunny central Florida. It is rated as the No. 1 place to retire for folks 55-and older in the United States.

Sometimes life just does not go as planned, and for whatever reason, we move on to different lifestyles with opportunities to meet new people with similar interests, hobbies and golf connections.

After spending most of my adult life on Cape Cod, and after my wife passed away in 2018, I pulled the trigger and moved to The Villages in 2019. Happy to admit it was a great decision and The Villages reputation as a one-of-a-kind destination is true and it’s absolutely a golfer’s paradise.

Truth be told: life does not get much better than this and it keeps getting better.

No matter where you go within The Villages community you are surrounded by golf courses and golfers and lots of older, happy faces. Somewhere there is a golf course that’s made for you, that translated means you can make many pars and maybe even a few birdies! By the end of 2021 there will be over 900 holes of golf available!

In the Beginning

The Villages got into the golf business back in 1983 when some residents decided to design a “makeshift” 9-hole course which they moved the tee boxes around to make it 18 holes. In 1985 this golf course would become Orange Blossom Hills Country Club the first Village Championship Course.

Little did they know back than that 11 more Championship Courses would follow. 1987-1988 saw two additional 9-hole courses being built which eventually started the Executive Golf Course concept that has developed into over 40 of these courses throughout the Village community.

The Dream Continues

The Villages continues to grow daily. Homes continue to be built expanding the Villages further south across the Florida Turnpike. Along with each new home comes more courses and recreational areas.

Whether you golf or not the preferred mode of transportation at The Villages is by golf cart.

New Championship courses are being built and planned as well as Executive Courses. It should also be mentioned that driving ranges, chip-and-putt courses, 18 hole putting courses and teaching facilities are found throughout The Villages.

Folks, The Villages is what I’ve always dreamed about. It’s a retirement community that is a golfing Mecca and a warm, wonderful place to call my new home! It’s always a beautiful day in my new neighborhood.
