HARTFORD, Connecticut – Every player in the Top 15 of the current Official World Golf Ranking eligible to play – and 45 of the top 50 – committed to play in the Travelers Championship, which begins Thursday June 19 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell.
Entry deadline for the PGA Tour’s eighth and final Signature Event was Friday, and the final field was completed after J.J. Spaun’s dramatic victory on Sunday at Oakmont (Pa.) Country Club. Spaun, the only player to finish under (1-under 279), won his first major championship when he drove the par-4 17th hole and two-putted for a birdie and then made a 64-foot birdie putt on No. 18 to finish two ahead of Robert MacIntyre.
Spaun, who though he might have give up the PGA Tour a year ago because of such poor play, became the first player on the PGA Tour since 2003 to shoot in the 40s on the front nine of the final round and go on to win (40-32). He also became the first player since Webb Simpson in 2012 to win the championship on his second attempt, vaulted from 25th to eighth in the Official World Golf Ranking and nearly locked up a spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup Team that will face Europe on Sept. 25-25 at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y.
“Fortunately, it was my time,” said Spaun, who bogeyed five of his first six holes Sunday before his gritty comeback to add to his only other PGA Tour title in the 2022 Valero Texas Open after losing a playoff to No. 2 Rory McIlroy in The Players Championship. “I never thought it would be here holding this trophy. I’ve always had aspirations and dreams.”

The Travelers field has all of the Top 11 in worth rankings, led by defending champion Scottie Scheffler, whose three victories this year include the PGA Championship. He is followed McIlroy, who completed the career Grand Slam by winning the Masters in April after capturing The Players Championship; No. 3 Xander Schauffele, the 2022 Travelers winner and reigning Open Championship titleholder; No. 4 Collin Morikawa; No. 5 Justin Thomas; No. 6 Russell Henley; No. 7 Sepp Straka; No. 8 Spaun; No. 9 Viktor Hovland; No. 10 Ludvig Åberg; and No. 11 Hideki Matsuyama.
“This is an incredible field of world-class PGA Tour players coming to Connecticut next week, and the competition is going to be something golf fans won’t want to miss,” Andy Bessette, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Travelers, said in a release. “Thanks to the dedication and hard work of countless people and the support from the best fans on the PGA Tour, the Travelers Championship has become a premier week in golf that continues to have a significant impact on numerous worthy charities throughout the region. We’re looking forward to another great tournament.”
The only Top 50 players not in the field are two-time U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau, who is not eligible to compete as a LIV Golf member and missed the cut as defender on Friday; Justin Rose (No. 19), who missed the cut at the U.S. Open; Tyrrel Hatton (No. 24), also a LIV Golf Tour member; Billy Horschel (26), out with a hip injury; and Sahith Theegala (38), out with a neck injury. According to pgatour.com, 2019 U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland, Rickie Fowler and Luke Clanton have received sponsor’s exemptions.

As a Signature Event, players must qualify for the tournament based on the following performance criteria, ensuring the participation of 72 of the PGA Tour’s best players: Top 50 players from the 2024 PGA Tour FedExCup standings; Aon Next 10 – Top 10 players from the 2025 PGA Tour FedExCup standings who did not finish in the top 50 of the 2024 FedExCup standings through the U.S. Open; Aon Swing 5—Top 5 players who accumulated the most FedExCup points from three tournaments – Myrtle Beach Classic, Charles Schwab Challenge and RBC Canadian Open, leading into the Travelers Championship; Players who win a full-points PGA Tour tournament during the 2025 season; PGA Tour members in the Top 30 in the Official World Golf Ranking, not exempt via a higher category, through the U.S. Open; Top 50 players from the 2024 PGA Tour FedExCup standings and Aon Next 10 – Top 10 players from the 2025 PGA Tour FedExCup standings who did not finish in the Top 50 of the 2024 FedExCup standings, through the U.S. Open.
The winner Sunday will earn $3.6 million from a $20 million purse and 700 FedExCup points in a 72-player field in which there is no cut.
“Knowing that these players weren’t required to play here but are choosing to do so is a testament to everyone who cares about this event,” tournament director Nathan Grube said. “The strength of this player field will make for an unforgettable tournament.”
There are five past champions in the field Scheffler, Schauffele, Harris English (2021, 17th), Vermont native and U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley (2023, 18th) and Jordan Spieth (2017), 47th).
