More often than not, the idea on the golf course is to avoid the water. While you certainly do not want your ball taking a cool dip on a hot day, water can be the difference maker in keeping you in good condition for the entirety of your round.
Your body is 60% water. Your essential organs such as your brain, heart, and kidneys are made up of over 70% water. It is vitally important to stay hydrated on a hot day, especially if that day is being spent on a golf course.
Like a sputtering golf cart running on fumes, your body does not function properly when it does not have enough water. Always have water with you, or visit the water coolers on the course as often as you can.
If you have ever had the displeasure of being dehydrated, as I have, you know just how important it is to drink water when the mercury rises. If you begin to feel the effects of dehydration, such as dizziness or disorientation, it’s too late.
In fact, when you begin to feel thirsty, your body is telling you that it is already depleted of water, and it needs more, now! Dehydration can lead to further, more serious health concerns such as a heat stroke. If you don’t like getting a 1 stroke penalty for hitting into the water, you really won’t like the heat stroke from not drinking enough water!
When you pack your bag for a round in extra warm weather, make sure you bring along some high-quality H2O. Water is your best friend on a hot day. Avoid beverages such as soda and beer, as drinks with caffeine and alcohol can speed up the dehydration process.
