CROMWELL, Connecticut – The Travelers Championship has been honored by USA Today, winning the publication’s inaugural Readers’ Choice Award as the ‘Best Golf Tournament for Fans’. This recognition comes days before the 2026 Travelers Championship, a PGA TOUR Signature Event featuring 72 of the world’s best players, held next week at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.

Nominated by an expert panel for USA Today, the Travelers Championship received the most votes over a four-week period in a competition that included 20 golf tournaments, from amateur events to popular PGA TOUR and LPGA Tour stops. It’s the second time in less than a year that the tournament has been chosen by fans in a poll. In September, the Travelers Championship was named the Best PGA TOUR Tournament Event by Newsweek.

The USA Today contest was announced in April, with fans able to vote once per day through June 8. For a full list of the results, click HERE. https://www.usatoday.com/sports/readers-choice-awards/best-golf-tournament-for-fans/

World No. 2 Rory McIlroy will be teeing it up again this week at TPC River Highlands.

“We’re incredibly fortunate to have the best fans in golf and we appreciate their support, not only at the tournament every year but when they have the chance to show their pride by voting for the Travelers Championship as their favorite event,” said Andy Bessette, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Travelers. “I can think of no better way to tee up our 2026 tournament week than by celebrating this special award with the fans who made it happen.”

The 2026 Travelers Championship welcomes ticketed spectators starting on Wednesday, June 24. The first round is Thursday, June 25, with the player field featuring 49 of the top 50 Official World Golf Ranking players, headlined by No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

Since 2007, when Travelers became title sponsor, the tournament has generated more than $35 million for over 1,000 nonprofits across the region, donating 100% of its net proceeds to charity. Last year’s Travelers Championship generated more than $4 million for 245 charities, setting tournament records.

The Travelers Championship is scheduled at TPC River Highlands June 25-28.

TPC River Highlands, which typically yields loads of low scores (Jim Furyk famously shot 58 there in 2016). Still, there are plenty of challenging holes where fans can watch the world’s best hit jaw-dropping shots. Holes 15, 16 and 17 are known as the “Bermuda Triangle” due to the fact that they surround a big lake that poses a threat on each shot. It’s always high-drama action

“We expect to break our record for charitable donations again this year, and that wouldn’t be possible without our fans coming out and creating an atmosphere that players have described as one of their favorites on the PGA TOUR,” said Nathan Grube, Travelers Championship Tournament Director. “Our thanks go out to the fans and to the charities that benefit from this tournament for helping us provide everyone with a world-class experience. Winning this award motivates us all to keep getting better.”
