BOURNE, Mass – If you’re searching for a golf course that has diverse, memorable holes, offers a wild, adventurous round of golf with an element of surprise, steep elevation changes as well as stunning views, then The Brookside Club is your place.
The first course on Cape Cod over the Bourne Bridge, The Brookside Club touts itself as “Cape Cod’s Premier Event Destination”. It prides itself as “A public golf course with a private club feel”, offering championship golf with a unique layout, impeccable course conditions, first class service, and luxurious dining and menu selection prepared by their critically-acclaimed chef.
Designed by Michael Hurdzan in 1986 and refurbished by John Sanford in 1996, the course stretches to 6317-yards from the tips, with a slope rating of 126. Varying tee lengths accommodate all skill levels and offer diversity so you can use all clubs in your bag. Golf Advisor ranked The Brookside Club No. 10 of the top courses in Massachusetts in 2018, and No. 17 of the top courses in New England in 2017.
The course starts out with a bang with no easy warm-up holes here. Hole No. 1 is a challenging downhill par-4 with out-of-bounds to the right and a pond coming into play on the uphill approach. The par-3 second hole features a blind shot to the green, and demands accuracy to par this tight downhill design.
“The golf course is always in top-notch playing condition,” said Shane Rockwood, a frequent patron. “I come here all the time because it has great atmosphere, friendly staff, good food and beverage choices and breath-taking sunsets.”
Golfer beware, because there’s lots of blind uphill shots, twists and turns that keep you alert. Riding? Hold on tight since you’re in for a roller-coaster ride along the steeply sloped and rolling terrain. Weekends & holidays rates with cart Friday – Sunday is $87 with senior rate of $62.
Aesthetically, The Brookside Club is tantalizing with its gorgeous vistas, cranberry bogs alongside the third through fifth fairways, blue-tinted water fountain adorns the 7th hole pond, as well as views of Buzzards Bay, Cape Cod Canal and the famous Railroad Bridge.
This is definitely a lady-friendly course as it allows distance advantage from the forward tees and all four par-3s are within driving distance for ladies ranging from 76-143 yards. Among the many uniquely designed, picturesque holes, the 12th hole was most memorable yet challenging with its severe dogleg left approach shot over a babbling brook to the left side of the cascading tiered green.
Whether golfing or dining in their Sunset Grille in the magnificent wood-frame, two-story clubhouse, you’ll be dazzled by the breathtaking bay views recently voted “Cape Cod’s Best Sunset.”
The Brookside Club is the “oasis” on upper Cape Cod.
