QUECHEE, VT – At the midway point of the 43rd New England Open situated on the scenic, rolling hills of The Quechee Club, six players sit atop of the leader board after firing five-under par 67s. Three professionals, Corey Brigham (Atlantic Highlands, NJ), 2013 Mass Open Champion Evan Harmeling (Burlington, VT), and Andrew Roy (Seekonk, MA), and three amateurs, Vermont native Drake Hull (a), former Maine amateur champion Jack Wyman (a) and 2016 low amateur Matt Hutchins (a), all share the lead with 18 holes to play.
Inclement weather conditions affected most of the 84-player field. Temperatures in the Green Mountain state started off promising in the mid 50s with brief glimpses of sunlight but around 1 p.m. light rain was a factor and tested the field in some way, shape or form.
Andrew Roy of Seekonk, MA shot nines of 33-34-67 and had himself a rollercoaster of a round. Roy’s front nine consisted of 6 birdies and 3 bogeys and he made his first par on the 10th hole. In all, Roy made nine birdies offset by four bogeys.
A total of 29 are sitting under par including three-time OMEGA Wogan Player of the Year Shawn Warren, two-time PGA of America Player of the Year Rich Berberian, Jr., and 2014 New England Open Champion Jesse Larson (Mendon, VT).
