LPGA Legends To Tee It Up On Cape Cod

BJ'S Charity Championship Will Be Contested at The Ridge Club in Sandwich

Fresh off her role as a captain’s assistant at the recent Solheim Cup, Nancy Lopez will switch gears next month as a player at the BJ’s Charity Championship.

Set for Friday, September 8, the BJ’s Charity Championship presented by P&G will be staged on Cape Cod for the first time.

The Ridge Club in Sandwich, Mass., will host the two-player team event that will feature 24 LPGA Legends and will benefit BJ’s Charitable Foundation. The tournament’s 18-hole format will feature nine holes of best ball and nine holes of scramble play.

“I am so excited about coming to the Cape to play for the BJ’s Charitable Foundation,” said Lopez, a member of the LPGA and World Golf Halls of Fame, who will team with LPGA veteran Michelle McGann in the event.

“It is just beautiful in that part of the country and I always look forward to the pro-am event every year, and now, the team event is a great addition,” Lopez said.

Moving from the sidelines of the Solheim Cup to inside the ropes at the BJ’s Charity Championship, Lopez admitted she hopes to take the momentum from Team USA’s recent win with her into this year’s charity team event on The Legends Tour.

Both Lopez and Pat Hurst, also in the field, served as assistants to winning Team USA Captain Juli Inkster at last month’s Solheim Cup.

“The Solheim Cup is always just the best,” said Lopez, who has been both a Team USA player and a former captain for the biennial match-play event between the United States and Europe. “Those girls can really play golf and, of course, they always inspire me.”

Admission is free to the public at this year’s BJ’s Charity Championship. Parking is free at Holly Ridge Golf Course and free shuttle service will be provided to the tournament entrance. No public parking will be available at The Ridge Club.

Fans are encouraged to bring folding chairs to the event. Public concessions, restrooms and a small sampling area, as well as a charity information area, will be available to spectators.
A trophy presentation on the 18th green to crown the champions will be held immediately following play.
