NORTON, Massachusetts – It’s been an incredibly busy summer so far in New England with the World Cup, Tall Ships and America’s 250th celebration dominating the news, and recently, after a record-setting 15-game winning streak the Red Sox have peaked the interest of sports fans. Can’t believe I’m typing this but the Patriots opened training camp July 25 and football fans are gearing up for six months of trials and tribulations of what former talk show host Jay Severin calls the National Football League – “North America’s largest religion.”
Golf aficionados and keen observers of the game know that the next big event on the sports scene is only weeks away: the LPGA returns to TPC Boston for the third edition of the FM Championship scheduled Thursday August 27 through Sunday August 30. The 144-player field features total prize money of $4.4 million, one of the highest non-major purses on the LPGA Tour, with the winner pocketing $615,000.
Last year’s exciting tournament showcased Chinese rookie Miranda Wang capturing her first LPGA title, edging out world No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul by one stroke to win the FM Championship at TPC Boston. The 26-year-old Duke alum delivered a clutch performance, finishing at 20-under 268 with a final-round 2-under 70 to claim the $615,000 top prize.

The Gil Hanse/Brad Faxon and original Arnold Palmer design of TPC Boston has featured heavily on the PGA Tour over the past 23 years. The course hosted the Deutsche Bank Championship between 2003 and 2016, the Dell Technologies Championship in 2017 and 2018 and the Northern Trust in 2020. Of those events, 13 were part of the FedEx Cup playoff series and the list of winners on the course is impressive including Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh.
The par-72 TPC course will stretch out to 6,598-yards for the best female golfers in the world. There are several daunting holes which will test the field namely the par-5, 542-yards second hole, will require three excellent shots to generate a birdie chance.
Hole No. 11 is among the finest and most daunting par 3s in New England. It rises dramatically 231-yards to the sloping green, with a bunker strategically placed in feet in front of the green, demanding an approach to the heart of it will create a solid chance for par.
There’s been much golf history created on the 18th hole, a 530-yard par-5 with bunkers in front and to the right of the slippery green meaning an accurate approach shot is required for a birdie chance.
LPGA FM CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD
This year marks the third-year of a five-year partnership between the LPGA and FM. FM Global, one of the world’s largest commercial property insurers with corporate offices in Johnston, Rhode Island with over 6,000 employees, collaborated with Fenway Sports Management to help secure the financial commitment with the LPGA Tour. What makes this tournament popular among the LPGA player sis the extraordinary perks for the players: free hotel lodging for the week, free food & beverage and transportation and a financial stipend to players who miss the cut.
The official field of committed LPGA players will be announced August 21 but expected stars include Massachusetts born-and-bred Megan Khang, Nelly Korda, Jeeno Thitikul, Lydia Ko, Brooke Henderson, Lexi Thompson, Georgia Hall, Lauren Coughlin, Lotte Woad, Rose Zhang, Minjee Lee, Jennifer Kupcho, Alexa Pano and Mao Saigo.
Megan Khang, 28, joined the Tour in 2016 and is a brand ambassador for FM, along with England’s Lottie Woad and Ireland’s Rory McIlroy. In 2025 she played in 20 events, made the cut in 16, earning $1,148,120, which was 36th on the money list. She recorded five top-10 finishes including a season-best runner-up result at the Dow Championship with playing partner Lexi Thompson.
