Chip Johnson & Liam Friedman Win NEPGA Senior-Junior Championship

Chip Johnson, (l) of Hatherly CC and Liam Friedman, of Nashawtuc CC teamed up to shoot a 9-under par 61, at Tedesco CC on August 12 to seal the victory at the New England PGA Senior-Junior Championship.

MARBLEHEAD, Mass. – Three eagles in a five-hole stretch propelled Chip Johnson, of Hatherly Country Club, and Liam Friedman, of Nashawtuc Country Club, to a two-stroke victory at the New England PGA Senior-Junior Championship on Monday August 12 at Tedesco Country Club.

Johnson and Friedman shot 9-under par 61, with eagles on Hole No. 6 and 9 and 10, including a two on the par-4 sixth. The pair added birdies on the second, third and 12th holes without a bogey in the fourball competition. When it was all said and done, they posted a 6-under 28 on Tedesco CC’s front-9.

Jeff Martin, of Wollaston Country Club, and John Paesani, of The Bay Club at Mattapoisett, finished alone in second place, carding a 63. The duo rattled off four consecutive birdies starting on the ninth hole and carried that momentum to a back-9 31, adding birdies on the 16th and 17th holes.

Frank Dully, of Kernwood CC, and Eric Barlow, of Winchester CC, tied for third with Bryan Kienke, of Cohasset GC and Joe Potty, of Cohasset G), each shooting 4-under 66.

Host professional Robert Green, was recognized after the competition for his service to Tedesco CC and the New England PGA. Green, who will retire at the end of this season after 49 years at Tedesco CC, including the last 41 as the head professional, is the recipient of the 2019 New England PGA’s 2019 Golf Professional of the Year.
