BOSTON, Mass – I had a 20-foot putt to par the No. 1 handicap hole at my favorite course. The putt was on line and had just enough speed to roll into the cup. “Yes I finally parred this hole.”
But I was a single and the only witness was a grumpy-looking turtle who was not impressed. If only somebody was with me to share in the experience. The best part of golf is the camaraderie formed when you share the experience with your fellow golfers. And Spark Golf is here to help you form those friendships in your area.
In 2018 Spark Golf was formed as a new way to encourage golfers to join a 9-hole golf league that is in your area. Spark Golf is a different kind of league that wants you to have fun regardless of your skill level. One unique trait of the Spark Golf League is some minor “modifications” in the rules of golf.

For example, there is no handicap required to participate. Spark will provide a handicap when you join, and your handicap will be adjusted according to your weekly scores.
If you find yourself hitting two tee shots into the water hazard, or buried in a bunker do not worry. Spark Golf wants you to have fun, not frustration. The app calculates a maximum score for every player on each hole. If you have reached the maximum score just pick up your ball and it’s off to the next tee.
One of the most stressful shots in golf is the 3-foot putt. It should be an easy tap in yet even the pros can miss this one. In Spark Golf you can pick it up because the putt is good! If a tee shot goes out of bounds you have to return to the tee and reload. Spark Golf thinks the penalty is a bit severe, so in this league you can just drop another ball and continue play.
Spark Golf has an app which provides registration, payment, handicaps, live scoring, and player to player messaging.

Spark is a 9-hole league that welcomes everybody that enjoys golf and making new friends. There is no fee for joining and you can sign up for rounds that fit your own schedule. You can join with a friend or as a single player.
During your round there will be two games. Two people will play best ball format and skins (a credit for future rounds) is given to the player with lowest net score on a hole.
Over 200,000 golfers across Canada and the USA have participated in the Spark Golf network. And with leagues available at over 2,000 golf courses you can always find a Spark Golf league close to you. Spark Golf has added a new icon to its program. “Early Bird” is an option where you can play a 9-hole round for as little as $1 a hole. So look for courses and check for availability.
So meet old friends and make new friends and add some “spark” to your golf game.
