Something For Golfers of All Ages at Boston’s Golf Expo

Temperatures touching the 60s-last week have teased local golf enthusiasts but they know the true signal of spring in these parts is when the annual Golf Expo kicks off this weekend at the Seaport World Trade Center.

Now in its 28th year, New England’s largest golf showcase features dozens of displays, exhibits and inter-active features including Joe & Leigh’s Fitting & Demo Center.

Over three days the show attracts about 20,000 golfers, all with sky-high anticipation that the season ahead will be the best ever, if only, they budget for the right $400 driver or $300 putter or $100 training aid.

Vendors have a clear message for consumers: “Come and check out the latest and greatest in equipment, clothing and gizmos.”

Callaway is promoting its newest product, the Rogue driver, even after coming off a groundbreaking season in 2017 with the Epic driver. Taylor Made wants you to buy the Tour Spider (Dustin Johnson model) putter and guarantees your putting game will improve. If only getting better at the world’s most interesting-and-frustrating sport was that easy.

The-popular Seminar Stage will feature daily seminars and demonstrations by New England PGA member instructors covering topics such as fitness, tips and technique.

Distinguished guests include Jim Armentrout, Director of Golf at Bayberry Hills and Bass River, and Mark O’Brien, Golf Director at The Captains in Brewster. The dynamic golf duo from Cape Cod will enlighten us on such things as how easy it is to get a tee time in August, where the best stay-and-play packages are on the Cape and where the best deals are for buddy trips or family vacations.

Daren McKinnon, Director of Club Fitting at Joe & Leigh’s Performance Center brings a wealth of experience and will talk about the benefits of club fitting.

Rob “Hardy” Poole, from CBS Radio’s 98.5 the Sports Hub in Boston will be on stage throughout the weekend discussing golf courses, lessons, equipment reviews and training tips for golfers of all abilities.

Terence Kolmar, TPI, Director of Fitness, LYNX Fitness Club and Kaitlyn Pimental, Founder and Strength Coach at Felix Fitness, will offer separate sessions focused on women golfers and fitness. Fortis is a sports fitness studio in Providence, RI specializing in golf fitness.

“We can’t wait to open the front doors Friday since these are three days that New England golf fans look forward to,” said Barbara Pudney, event manager for the Paragon Group. “Since the golf season is on the brink we always see lots of happy faces.”

MYRTLE BEACH GOLF HOLIDAY

For golfers who have been to Myrtle Beach, a return trip is a must. For those who’ve never been well what are you waiting for?

Myrtle Beach, in my opinion & I’ve been there 20 times, is the undisputed Golf Capital of the World for a reason. The honky-tonk area of South Carolina has 86 courses, many nationally ranked, along 60 miles of coastline and there’s something there for every style of golf game. The variety of golf courses and holes are entertaining with holes ranging from doglegs left, doglegs right, island holes, bunkers, water, tiered greens, spectacular climate, fun cart girls and tons of stuff to do after posting a 90-something.

If you’re really ambitious try the World Amateur held the last week of August for four days of memorable golf fun!
