Seventy eight of the best senior golfers in the world will compete for the $2 million purse. Past champions include Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker, Brett Quigley and Rocco Mediate. Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa is nestled along a pristine stretch of Florida’s Atlantic Coast.

The field of 30 golf writers played both courses and also got to experience how challenging it can be playing golf along the Atlantic Ocean in January. Our final round on the Ocean Course produced cold temps, rain and strong wind gusts. Pro Golf Weekly and New England dot Golf’s Leigh McKay, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, posted rounds of 77-78-155 totaling 73 Stableford points, to claim his GWAA title for a record tenth time.

“Nicklaus’s Ocean Course will be a superb venue for Hammock Beach’s inaugural Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS,” said MacKay, after his round. “The GWAA golf writers thoroughly enjoyed the layout and remarked most positively on the design, the condition and the playability. For the golf fans that are not familiar with Hammock Beach, the TV coverage will offer a world-class golf resort that should not be missed.”

Spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean will create memories that will last a lifetime.

The Ocean Course isn’t just another pretty-looking postcard. It’s a challenging golf course to say the least. Jack Nicklaus designed the course to emphasize wind, water and natural movement. The five ocean front holes feature elevation changes and protected greens. Most notably the Ocean Course features “The Bear Claw”. Named by Nicklaus himself, holes 15-18 provide expansive views of the Atlantic while hugging the dunes. Expect a fantastic finish on the 7,200 yard, par 72 layout. The 17th hole is a dead up-hill par 3 with the ocean winds in your face. The 18th hole is a risk and reward par-4 with options for aggressive play or a smart finish.

Mark your calendar to catch the FURYK and FRIENDS October 9-11. Enjoy watching how they handle the “Bear Claw”. For those thinking about your next golf vacation, Hammock Beach Resort & Spa offers attractive stay-and-play packages.

Play where the pros play and you’ll enjoy every moment, especially when the Sunshine State delivers sunshine and warms temps!
