NAPLES, Florida – According to the American Association of Retired People (AARP), there are 10,000 baby boomers reaching retirement age every day and we know at least some of them are asking the question, Where is the best place to retire?
While Naples has certainly made strides in attracting younger, working families following the establishment of several corporate headquarters, including Arthrex, Chico’s, and Hertz, Southwest Florida is still proving itself as a mecca for the more mature and discerning of residents.
The communities in Naples, FL have so much more to offer than shuffleboard and – as many 65-plus people will tell you – retirement definitely doesn’t mean hanging up your hat from living the good life. For many, it’s just the beginning of a life lived at its best.
Warm beaches, white sands, renowned Chef’s opening new gourmet restaurants every week, museums and art, running and biking trails, and too many award-winning golf courses to count, are just the beginning of why Naples, FL was named the best place to retire on Livability.com’s 2018 list.
To determine Naples’ No. 1 standing as the best place to retire, Livability.com analyzed all U.S. cities with a population between 20,000 and 300,000 and removed places that reflected a high cost for healthcare.
Data sources included the U.S. Census Bureau, Medicare, ESRI, USDA, and NOAA.
Naples is one of the wealthiest cities in the United States, with the sixth-highest per capita income in the country in 2012, and the second-highest proportion of millionaires per capita in the US. The economy of Naples is based largely on tourism and was historically based on real estate development and agriculture.
Information gathered covered community engagement, quality of healthcare, recreational activities, number of 65+ residents, air quality, climate, property taxes, and assisted living options among many other factors.
Other cities that made the list were found across the U.S. in South Carolina, Georgia, Indiana, Washington, California, Texas, Tennessee, Arizona, and Arkansas.
