LIBERTY CORNER, New Jersey – Entry applications for the 119th U.S. Open, 74th U.S. Women’s Open, 40th U.S. Senior Open, and 2nd U.S. Senior Women’s Open will be available beginning Feb. 20 at champs.usga.org.
“In total, the USGA received more than 13,000 entries for our Open Championships in 2018,” said John Bodenhamer, USGA senior managing director, championships. “We are committed to continuing to create an Open Championship experience that is exemplary for our players, volunteers, spectators and viewers, and are excited for the venues we’ll be bringing our four championships to this season. The openness of our championships is something we’re extremely proud of, and we look forward to seeing more dreams come true as our qualifying season begins.”
The U.S. Open Championship, which will take place at Pebble Beach (Calif.) Golf Links from June 13-16, is open to professionals and amateur golfers with a Handicap Index of 1.4 or less. This will be the sixth U.S. Open held at famed Pebble Beach, which has produced champions such as Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Tom Kite, Tiger Woods and most recently, Graeme McDowell in 2010. Local qualifying will be held from April 29-May 13, with Final Qualifying set for May 20-June 3. Last year, the championship garnered 9,049 entries.
New for 2019, multiple winners of PGA Tour events that award a full-point allocation for the season-ending Tour Championship are fully exempt into the championship. In addition, playing members of the USA Team at the 2018 World Amateur Team Championships who turned professional are exempt through local qualifying. Entries for the 2019 championship close at 5 p.m. EDT on April 24.
The U.S. Women’s Open Championship, which will be played at The Country Club of Charleston (S.C.) May 30-June 2, is open to female professionals golfers or female amateurs with a Handicap Index not exceeding 2.4. This will be the second USGA championship held at the Seth Raynor-designed course, with Emma Talley winning the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship there in 2013. Sectional qualifying will be held at 25 sites throughout the world from April 22-May 8. Entries close at 5 p.m. EDT on April 17.
Three new exemptions have been added for the 2019 championship; the winner of the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur, as well as the winners of the 2018 and 2019 U.S. Senior Women’s Opens.
The U.S. Senior Open will be held Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame (Ind.) from June 27-30. Sectional qualifying will be held from May 13-June 10 at 34 sites throughout the country. The championship is open to golfers who are age 50 and over by the start of the championship, and who are professionals or amateur who have a Handicap Index not exceeding 3.4. Entries close May 8 at 5 p.m. EDT. New for 2019, exemptions will be granted for the Top 10 on the 2018 Euro Senior Staysure Tour season-ending money list (up from Top 6), as well as the Top 4 finishers on the 2018 Japan Senior Tour’s season-ending money list (up from Top 2).
The U.S. Senior Women’s Open will take place at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C. from May 16-19. The championship is open to female golfers who are age 50 and over by the start of the championship, and who are professional or are amateurs who have a Handicap Index not exceeding 7.4. Sectional qualifying will take place at 17 sites throughout the United States between April 17-30. A full list of exempt players can be found at usga.org. Entries close April 10 at 5 p.m. EDT.
In the following weeks, entry applications for the ten 2019 amateur competitions conducted by the USGA, including the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Women’s Amateur, will also be available.
