MATTAPOISETT, MA – The Bay Club in Mattapoisett, MA played host to the Acushnet Golf Pro-Assistant Championship showcasing some outstanding golf as 24 pairings shot under par on a picture perfect New England spring day.
PGA Professionals from 56 different facilities teamed up with simple goals in mind – play golf, have fun and enjoy the day. Entries for 2018 featured an additional 10 teams over 2017 with each Chapter in the Section represented.
After the morning wave of players, 66 (-5) was the score to beat, but that didn’t last long as the host professionals from The Bay Club defended their turf carding a pair of 65s (-6). General Manager Greg Yeomans, PGA shot 67 on his own ball and was helped by his teammates John Paesani & Tracy Djerf along the way. Matt Zdon, PGA & Jeff Atkinson of Belmont CC and Pat Beahn, PGA & Bob Bruso, PGA of Blackstone National GC were able to match, with 65s of their own late in the day.
As the final groups of the day signed their cards at about 6 p.m., Boomer Erick and Mike Farrell of Boston Golf Club rocked-and-rolled-and blistered The Bay Club firing a 9-under (62). No team was a match for these Hingham, MA natives, who played flawless golf and posted matching 31’s respectively on the front and back nine. Erick and Farrell kept their feet on the gas the entire round, carding four birdies on the front 9 holes followed by five on the back side. The team took home the title by three strokes over four teams tied at six-under.
The New England PGA tees up next at Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth, MA for the Pro-Am Championship Tuesday, May 29th.
